Travelling the world in a camper van

I had a glimpse in my telephone and pulled over - the campsite named Lowburn Harbour was another 3km up the street. I continued driving and I seen it a level grass patch about the size of a football field right.

This was the day my parents and I went around the South Island of New Zealand - at a camper van.

The very best quality of this manner of adventure travel is your capability to"complimentary camp" (Circle publicly from the wild). It gave us lots of flexibility within our itinerary, since we can stop without worrying about times at 29, at any areas that grabbed our attention.

A number at comprised: a beach with views of mountain ranges some riverside that overlooked a tiny city and the Pacific Ocean and also a National Park area with views of peaks and lake plains. It was a privilege to predict locations that are amazing home.
Preparing a meal at the campervans mini kitchen
My parents enjoyed our experience. They must enjoy and also the kitchen let them cook foods recognizable for their palate. Biking was a experience for them. As the wilderness was at their doorstep it accelerates their sense of experience. They could possess their creature comforts.

I picked a place about 5 metres away from the edge of the water. Lake Dunstan lay out our window and 2 mountain ranges, together with snow dusting their peaks, climbed up on both sides of the lake. Besides a block of bathrooms, there was nothing in our campsite but trees and grass. What gave it away were the 10 camper trucks.

The lake was being rippled by A mild breeze, as the sun started to set and the sky was tinged in crimson. I switched off the ignition of the camper van. My mom asked,"Is it?"

“Yup”, I replied.

“Just like that?” she asked, a tad worried.

“Just like that,” I affirmed.

Learning curves

A two-berth container van is going to be some thing like a standard van and you'll need to cook (and poop!) Exterior -- that can be hard in weather. However, its small size means you can go a shore to, say, on little paths. Camper van excursions are very popular around South Island. I needed to do lots of research as it was my first time planning a trip such as this. There are lots of firms with an range of surcharges and bundles.

A campervan hire van is going to have more space inside. This is fantastic for a family with kids, but the main streets can not wander away off. There are various insurance packages and a few just cover damage over a certain"surplus" limit. You could think,"Oh, I'm am a really cautious driver, and that I do not think I will incur any harm". Summertime (December to February at NZ) is indeed active among the two foreign tourists and tourists when I left the reservation in July, the access to camper vans was limited. I took on the bundle that had leasing and insurance coverage of accessories, also was able at the middle price range.

On arrival in South Islandwe spent two nights at Christchurch town (that we explored on foot). We took a cab. There was also the water method (taps and bathroom ), the gasoline machine (stove and heating system ) and the electrical system (just one power socket along with the lights). You will find various gauges. If it was time A number of them signaled.

But on dirt or gravel roads streets that lead to areas that are fascinating are in NZ and these may have or hanging branches which scratch against the body. Taking the package meant that I was able to like a holiday.

The learning curve that was next came since I turned on the street and started the engine up. It had been much more, although the camper van wasn't especially wider than a car that is large. I needed also to allow space and to learn to brake. This was my first time on NZ roads, also shifting from a driving attitude, I needed to be sure I followed all rules and read all of street signs!

We tucked in mountains near the dining table; the morning we awakened to the perspective, but with a glow and while catching glimpses of the lake. After a very long day's push into the state, in Lowburn Harbour, we called it a day together with sightseeing stops in Lake Pukaki and Lake Tekapo. The briefing of of the functions and systems was overpowering, as it was our first time with such a car. However, our attendant assured us like moving into a home, we'd settle in.

For the most part, we alternated between staying and free camping at a holiday park. These parks have facilities for a camper van, like refilling water, removing waste and charging the battery. Staying in the holiday parks felt with amenities such as laundry and heated showers like a luxury. They were great for people watching too. We felt quite settled in and got acquainted with the camper van Since the days went on.

Our travel was a big loop around the South Island - from Christchurch to Queenstown throughout the mountains; afterward via Wanaka and the Haast Pass to the West Coast. Till we got to Greymouth, then we went north beyond both the Fox and Franz Josef glaciers. For Abel Tasman National Park, we left after that, and eventually down south along the East Coast, ago Kaikoura and back to Christchurch.

You can not free camp wherever you like in NZ, as there are spots that have"No camper van" signals that ought to be respected. Places have been ruined by camping abusers previously with fires, garbage and waste. Additionally, there are"minimal facility sites" which are less costly than holiday parks. All these have basic amenities like toilets that are non-heated, charging waste stations and ports. Many campsites in national parks that are preserved by the NZ Department of Conservation (DOC) are in this category.

Be aware that whenever you are totally free camping (and not connected to an external power supply), electricity from the vehicle battery is used to operate the lights and water pumps however NOT the electric socket. So, if you need to control your phones and camera batteries, you should do this with the cigarette lighter socket (if driving the vehicle) via a suitable adapter. I'd gladly pay the charges (NZ$6 or RM16 per adult per night) to the amount of great work that DOC will to preserve those regions, including walking tracks that are nicely appointed and CLEAN bathrooms with toilet
paper.

Malaysians, don't be kiamsiap (stingy)! Support DOC!

Since a lot of tourism infrastructure is constructed for camper van travelers doing this is excellent. Just remember that there's a reason why those areas are popular and beautiful. We all must play a role. For households who want to get a version of experiences, a camper van travel would be highly recommended by me. You appreciate the privilege of remaining together with the conveniences of kitchen and an bed in wilderness areas, in addition to the flexibility of forcing yourself.
